R+ Horse Lessons in QC
One-on-one positive reinforcement sessions in Saint-Clet, QC, or on-site within the Vaudreuil-Soulanges region.
These sessions are for hobbyists who are already familiar with positive reinforcement and marker-based training and want to apply it with horses, or go further with the horses they're already working with.
Familiarity with R+ training is required, however experience with horses is not.
If you've been working with R+ across other species and have never had the opportunity to try it with horses, this is that opportunity. Working across species builds your understanding of the methodology in ways a single species can't. Horses offer a different scale, a different set of natural behaviors, and a different set of training challenges that will sharpen how you work with every animal you train.
Meet Our Horses
Sessions at the Saint-Clet location are conducted with one of two horses, depending on your goals and what you're working on.
[Horse 1] Darby is a colt trained entirely from the ground up with positive reinforcement. Working with him gives you a real look at behavior being built in real time — including the stages most training content skips over. Ideal for foundation mechanics, early shaping work, and seeing what stimulus control looks like before it's polished.
[Horse 2] Clark is a Percheron mix with the steady, food-motivated temperament draft breeds are known for. His size makes him particularly useful for anyone working with or planning to work with a larger horse — handling, cooperative care, and close-contact behaviors all translate directly. If the scale of a big horse has ever been a factor for you, working with Clark in a controlled R+ context is a useful experience.
How it Works
What to expect
Sessions run 1 hour and take place in an outdoor paddock (Saint-Clet, parking is available).
What we work on is determined by your goals and your experience level coming in. Common session focuses include:
Refining R+ mechanics — station work, at liberty, or on lead
Building or troubleshooting specific behaviors: targeting, haltering, grooming, hoof care, fly spray
Addressing food-related behavior problems — mugging, pushiness, difficulty with duration
Watching a behavior shaped or refined in real time, then working through it yourself
Building a plan for what to work on between sessions
For on-site sessions: provide a private enclosed space to work, and any tack or equipment relevant to the skills you are expecting to work on.
Weather and rescheduling: Sessions are held outdoors and are weather-dependent. Either party may reschedule with 24 hours' notice at no additional cost. In the event of sudden or unsafe weather conditions, sessions may be rescheduled with shorter notice — these are handled case by case.
After purchase: you'll receive a brief intake form to share your experience level, what you're working on, and any relevant history. Your scheduling link follows once your intake is received.
